Saturday, October 17th – Special Session will take place in Santa Fe.
Don’t let them balance the budget on our backs again.
Be there. Wear green in solidarity. Bring friends.
WHAT: Labor unions and community organizations will meet up in Santa Fe at 10 a.m. to march to the capitol for a sit in.
- We will hand deliver messages to our own state senators and representatives before the session begins at 12 p.m. (See below for message).
- At 12 pm, we will pack the house and senate galleries and take notes, watch how lawmakers vote, write down what they say, and evaluate them.
WHO: AFSCME, NMFL, AFL-CIO members, friends, community allies.
WHEN: Saturday, October 17th @ 10:00 a.m.
WHERE: Inn of the Governors in Santa Fe located at 101 W Alameda St, Santa Fe, NM 87501. Call if lost at (505) 350-2200. An AFL-CIO headquarters will be set up at the Inn of the Governor's in the KIVA ROOM. The Inn is located at Don Gaspar and Alameda.
BEFORE SATURDAY! GO TO www.AFSCME18.org and find your state senator and representative and call. Tell them:
1. Do not layoff, furlough, or cut wages for public employees and do not cut public services.
2. Vote to roll back tax cuts for the wealthiest New Mexicans.
3. Vote to close tax loopholes for Wal-Mart, Target, Lowe’s, Starbucks and other out-of-state corporations that don’t pay taxes on profits earned in New Mexico.
*Parking is available at Paseo de Peralta and Old Pecos Trail or in lot west of state capitol building. Inn of Governor’s is 4 minute walk from there.
