We've had some good victories in the House over the last few days: Speaker Lujan's half-cent gross receipts increase, Rep. Sandoval's bill to repeal at least a small part of millionaires' tax breaks, and Speaker Lujan's bill to collect taxes owed from out-of-state workers all have passed at least one committee. Combined reporting is stalled in House Business & Industry, but we're working hard to win over one or two more legislators--thank you for all of your calls.
For the next two days, we need calls on a bill that can generate about $40 million for the general fund and will help PERA without raising taxes one dime: ending double dipping. Senate Bill 207 would end some double dipping in the future, but would allow the 2,200 current double dippers to continue to drain both the general fund and PERA. Double dipping also is one of the main reasons that there is a widespread attack on the retirement system for all of our members and retirees.
Call and email the Senate Public Affairs Committee (SPAC) and ask them to repeal ALL double dipping, with NO grandfathering. Democrats and Republicans alike support ending double dipping, so please call Senators in both parties.
