The budget is back at the center of our union's world for at least another week. We can't have more cuts--we've already taken too much and services and people--employees and clients alike--are suffering. For the first set of emails we're going to focus on the Senate. While the House budget could have used more progressive revenue measures, ultimately it was good enough to avoid more cuts. The same isn't true of the Senate budget. Here are 12 key swing Democratic senators to email over the next two days. Don't be afraid to personalize your story--state and university employees have faced cuts that have put some of them to the edge, and legislators need to know how much the cuts have already hurt. And please use examples from work, too--the proposed program and agency cuts are going to lead to even more workloads and further hinder our ability to help citizens. You can also call their Roundhouse office numbers and leave messages, but many voicemails may be full. We're going to stay away from calling their home numbers for now, so if you can't get through at the Roundhouse, just make sure to email and we'll get calls in to senators starting on Wednesday. Governor Richardson's office should be open Monday and Tuesday before the special session, so call him as well and ask him to support more revenues and no more cuts. Governor Richardson: 476-2200 Phil Griego (San Jose--Los Alamos, Mora, Sandoval, San Miguel, Santa Fe & Taos Counties) 986-4861 senatorgriego@yahoo.com
